Overall, it is a wonderful book. The only reason that it is a 4/5 star rating is that it seems a little short and you wish that it would include more content.

Such a great book! Just finished reading it… less than 2 days, like all the others. It’s definitely one of those books you CAN NOT put down! No matter how old you are, it’s a good book for ALL ages. I’m 26 and I plan to keep all of my Ranger’s Apprentice books for my kids (when I have them) and might even get a set for my nephews. Funny thing is, you find people who like Ranger’s Apprentice that you would never see liking to read, much less a “kid’s” book. Such a breath of fresh air to read a book that’s not surrounded by sex, vampires, fairy tales, or utter violence. It’s almost like reading a piece of history that could have happened without being bombarded by the “in” thing to write about these days. I personally can’t wait for the movie!!
Anyways, “The Kings of Clonmel” is definitely another great by John Flanagan. With this book you get to see a little more of Halt’s past and for a few seconds you’re sort of wondering if Halt really IS related to Will until you’re introduced to Sean. Regardless, this book continuously brings out the characters’ personalities and I enjoyed another adventure with Halt, Horace, and Will. Best part is when Will is reintroduced to Castle Redmont when they start a new Ranger’s Special Task Group. How awesome is that? You get another glimpse into the relationships in Redmont between Halt and Pauline… and the growing love of Will and Alyss. Like I said… a glimpse because the adventure begins and you’re off to Hibernia, Halt’s homeland.
The only thing I didn’t like 100% was the angle that Mr. Flanagan puts towards religions… granted, it’s not entirely negative, but he doesn’t get into how religious people were for the time period he’s writing in. Yes, I know it’s fiction, but he does make a jab or two at religion. Regardless, he does discuss how cults can ruin a people and how easily susceptible people can be by a charismatic leader. Anyways, GREAT BOOK and I cannot wait for Book 9 to get released!

He’s done it again! Loved the continuing story of Will, Halt and Horace. This tale revealed a bit more about Halt then I ever thought we would learn. Read it so fast I am reading it again. If you have loved the first seven Ranger’s Apprentices, this one will NOT disappoint!

Great book/series – I have read all 9 and am waiting for 10 later this year.

According to my son, this book maintained the same energy and style as the first books. Book 7 had him worried that things were slowing down. He read using every available moment and consumed this book with more enthusiasm than ever. John Flanagan has my respect as he is able to write books in such a way to create enthusiastic young readers in a time when video games draw kids in. My son is now 15, but he has been reading this series throughout his younger years and goes back to the Ranger’s Apprentice Books when he can’t find something new to read.
My 10 year old son is starting to read these as well.
For any parent looking to buy a book for their kids, especially kids who love action, mixed with humor and epic story lines, John Flanagan delivers it with the Ranger’s Apprentice Series!
